here comes the rain again...
So post-glacier walk we have been pretty uneventful- we stopped in Greymouth for the night at a delightful hostel- it was raining quite a lot so we just read for the duration of the evening… the next day we went on a hunt for a latte (well I wanted one- the foam here is DELICIOUS) the first place we went to had no flavours (and I’m a wuss) the next place we went to had mint chocolate flavouring, BF took one sip and said “you won’t like it” so the THIRD place I went to made a delicious latte, but forgot to make mine with trim milk, so we ended up getting two quality lattes, one for me and one for BF—so after THAT debacle, we headed out towards Blenheim… only to be stopped just after Westport because a trailer on a truck had gone over the side of a bridge and they needed to remove it… we were told it would be a 4-5hour wait.
So being that it’s New Zealand, the only way around the accident was to go back down to Greymouth and around it, which would have taken almost as long anyways (and was on a ‘scenic route’ -which means George would not have enjoyed it) so we hung out in Westport… we only got to Murchison that evening- but the hostel was awesome- very homey, we enjoyed a game of battleship, several games of connect 4 and a movie! I was super glad we stopped there because the next day we went to a cafe for breakfast and there was a group of grandparents there on a tour and they were so adorable, it made me miss my grandparents…but I was happy to see them out and about :) It just made my day!
The drive to Blenheim was uneventful except for the SNOW… and once we got to the hostel it worked out that we had ANOTHER house to ourselves! (traveling in the off season is awesome!!) So since it was raining we just holed up with some snacks and the TV, and when the fire wouldn’t stay ablaze we moved back into our room with the heater and began a read-a-thon! I finished a whole book in 5 hours…!
Today we made teh trek back down to Kaikoura where we are now sitting in the room again as it is pelting down with rain. and I gave my bright yellow rain suit to Fir (she totally needed it more than I do).
Tomorrow it’s down to Christchurch where we will attempt to sell George and start getting outselves organized to travel back to Canada. weird.
